Terms of Service

Last updated: May 31, 2026

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of The Hope Project (“Hope,” “we,” “us”), including our mobile app and related services. By creating an account or using Hope, you agree to these Terms. Please read them carefully, along with our Privacy Policy.

1. Acceptance of these Terms

By accessing or using Hope, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use Hope. If you use Hope on behalf of another person or entity, you represent that you are authorized to accept these Terms on their behalf.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old and capable of forming a binding contract to use Hope. By using the service, you represent and warrant that you meet these requirements and that the information you provide is accurate and complete.

3. What Hope provides

Hope is a personal finance application that helps you connect your financial accounts, view balances and transactions, track net worth and investments, and set budgeting, savings, and debt-payoff goals. The service is provided for your personal, non-commercial use to help you understand and organize your finances. Features may change, expand, or be discontinued over time.

4. Your account

To use Hope, you create an account and are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You agree to notify us promptly of any unauthorized use or security breach. We are not liable for any loss arising from your failure to safeguard your account.

5. Connecting financial accounts

Hope lets you connect external financial accounts through Plaid Inc. (“Plaid”). When you connect an account, you authorize us to access and use the related financial data as described in our Privacy Policy, and you agree to Plaid's own terms and privacy policy. You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to connect any account you link. Account data is provided by your institutions and Plaid, and we are not responsible for its accuracy, completeness, or timeliness.

6. Not financial, investment, tax, or legal advice

Hope provides informational tools to help you organize and understand your finances. It does not provide financial, investment, tax, accounting, or legal advice, and nothing in the app constitutes a recommendation to buy, sell, or hold any financial product. You are solely responsible for your financial decisions and should consult a qualified professional before acting on any information in Hope.

Important

Figures shown in Hope — including balances, net worth, projections, and goal estimates — are for informational purposes only and may not reflect your actual, current financial position. Always verify important figures directly with your financial institution.

7. Acceptable use

You agree not to misuse Hope. In particular, you will not:

Use the service for any unlawful, fraudulent, or unauthorized purpose.
Attempt to access accounts or data that are not yours, or that you are not authorized to connect.
Interfere with, disrupt, reverse-engineer, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to the service or its systems.
Use automated means to access the service except as expressly permitted by us.

8. Intellectual property

Hope and all related content, software, designs, logos, and trademarks are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by intellectual-property laws. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the app for its intended purpose. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or create derivative works from any part of the service without our permission. You retain ownership of the financial data you connect; you grant us the rights needed to provide the service to you.

9. Third-party services

Hope relies on third-party services, including Plaid and our cloud and infrastructure providers, and may link to third-party content. We are not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or practices of third-party services, and your use of them may be subject to their own terms.

10. Disclaimers

Hope is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or that data shown will be accurate or complete. Your use of Hope is at your own risk.

11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Hope and its affiliates, officers, employees, and agents will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising out of or relating to your use of (or inability to use) the service. To the extent liability cannot be excluded, our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or USD $100.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Hope and its affiliates from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of your use of the service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any rights of a third party.

13. Termination

You may stop using Hope and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms, if required by law, or to protect the service or other users. Upon termination, the rights granted to you will end, and provisions that by their nature should survive — including ownership, disclaimers, limitation of liability, and indemnification — will continue to apply.

14. Changes to the service and these Terms

We may modify the service or these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes to the Terms, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Your continued use of Hope after changes take effect means you accept the revised Terms.

15. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. You agree that any dispute relating to these Terms or the service will be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in New York County, New York, unless applicable law requires otherwise.
